Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum in neonates: a case series

Abstract Background Pneumoperitoneum is defined as the presence of free air in peritoneal cavity. It a surgical emergency that represents 90% cases with hollow viscus perforation and its feared consequences sepsis death. On other hand, spontaneous pneumoperitoneum benign entity occurring newborns requires no intervention. Cases presentation In this series, we report three neonates treated at Jordan University Hospital between 2004 2021. Two them were by exploration laparotomy but gross pathology could be identified; one case was successfully conservatively observation alone. Conclusion This series recognizes such which can conservatively, eliminating unnecessary burden morbidity mortality surgery age group.
